Event Policies

Thank you for your interest in Free Mom Hugs! We began with a small group of like-minded moms and dads, and now our movement has spread far beyond what we imagined! It’s because of moms and dads like you that we have been able to reach so many people. We want you to go out and spread love one hug at a time! But to ensure we all are unified in our goals, we do have a few principles and guidelines that need your agreement:

  1. Free Mom Hugs is a group of affirming parents and allies. We believe members of the LGBTQ+ community are equal and should be treated as such in all forums. This group is intended only for those who support same-sex marriage politically and religiously.
  2. Free Mom Hugs expects anyone representing our organization to be non-discriminatory and to conduct themselves ethically and with respect to others, whether we agree with them or not.
  3. Free Mom Hugs is a non-profit 501(c)3. Therefore, we cannot as an organization endorse, condone or condemn any political candidate nor politician. We ask that while you are representing Free Mom Hugs that you avoid any appearance of political favoritism or opposition including but not limited to avoiding photos and posts on social media with anyone with a political agenda.
  4. Please identify yourself as a member or representative of Free Mom Hugs with a shirt, banner, button or sign, available currently through our Zazzle store at www.zazzle.com/freemomhugs.
  5. Be respectful of privacy. Please do not take, send or post photos on social media of anyone without their permission.
  6. The LGBTQ+ community is inclusive of many different subgroups. All groups are to be treated equally by those representing Free Mom Hugs.
  7. Not everyone is a hugger. Offer a hug prior to touching someone and give them the opportunity to refuse. If they refuse or hesitate, offer a high five or hand shake. Never make anyone feel badly if they don’t want a hug. We are all on different journeys.
  8. Be cognizant of LGBTQ+ community members’ preferred pronouns and respect their choice. If you don’t know, it’s okay and respectful to ask, “What pronoun do you prefer?”
  9. Be willing not just to hug, but to listen. We have printable resources available, so please see our website (www.freemomhugs.org) and feel free to bring them with you. Do not offer additional resources without approval from Free Mom Hugs. Any personal contact information you chose to share is at your own risk. You can direct anyone who needs follow up to our website.
  10. Free Mom Hugs will be held harmless for any damage to your person or property while you are representing our organization.
  11. While representing Free Mom Hugs, please follow all federal, state and local laws and ordinances. We will not be held responsible for any illegal and/or criminal activities while you represent our organization.
  12. A copy of this list of guidelines must be provided to all moms, dads and allies who participate at an event representing Free Mom Hugs. Participation equals acceptance of these policies.
  13. Don’t let this legal list and disclaimers damper your desire to love others and have fun doing so!
