Shannon Black (she/her)
TREASURER

Shannon Black was born and raised in Arizona. She taught middle school for 17 years in both district and charter schools, teaching music, English Language Arts, social studies, and AVID. Shannon left the classroom in 2019 and now works for the state of Arizona monitoring charter schools around the state.

Shannon is married and has a daughter in her sophomore year at Arizona State University. In 2021, her niece moved to Arizona from South Carolina and has become her bonus kid, joining Shannon at pride events and drag shows.

Shannon is a long time advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community. In the early 1990s, she taught HIV/AIDS education workshops for the American Red Cross. When her daughter came out, Shannon worked to ensure that her home was always a safe and affirming space for kids who packed that love at home. In 2019, Shannon founded the Arizona chapter of Free Mom Hugs and has been thrilled to see its membership steadily grow. Shannon also serves as the chair of the national chapter committee which continues to build infrastructure for our state chapters. She is honored to serve on the National board and currently serves as Treasurer

In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, reading and spending time with family.
